Whats your opinions on the current coalition governments plans for welfare reform? I am against it and I feel with the emphasis on making work pay and the threats on benefit cuts with stricter tests will make already vulnarable people that are sick and disabled worser off. The Citizens Advice has already deemed the newer ESA assessments as 'not fit for purpose' as the system that was designed to protect the very people it was designed for have been failing medicals and pushed to work despite suffering from serious physical and medical ill health. With impending goverment cuts, increase in unemployment and uncertainty over incapcity, ESA and disability benefits...things just seem bleak. Its as though people are being penalised for having an illness. This government should be protecting them not making them feel like lazy scroungers

I would agree with this - apart from being worse off financially, I also think that in many cases it will cause a great deal of stress, which will in turn result in people with anxiety having more anxiety! If someone is suffering from illness or disability they have enough to cope with without having to worry about having enough money to feed and clothe themselves. Thankfully I do not have to rely on the welfare system at the moment, but I would like to think that if were in such a position there would be help available to me, which I fear there would not be!

Yes, its tough when you can't work because of mental health problems....it really doesn't help to be worried that you will lose your benefits. If only there was a way for the government to tell who is in genuine need and who is being a scrounger. I don't know if any of you have ever applied for income protection insurance....it seems as soon as you have a mental health diagnosis they're not interested.
